haunted pond
There was a medium-sized old pond in the middle of Paschimpara. Beautiful paved ghats were built all around. In the morning, the pond bank would get wet as soon as the sun set. The women of the village would wash clothes, some would wash dishes, fishermen would cast nets to catch fish, and in the afternoon, young children would sit and talk on the ghat.
The pond was called "Kalodighi".
As peaceful and beautiful as the place looked during the day, it would become just as scary as night fell. No one would go that way after evening. The villagers used to say that after midnight, a woman dressed in white could be seen in the pond water. Sometimes her cries could be heard, sometimes the sound of someone walking in the water could be heard from the houses in the distance.
Many years ago, a bride drowned in that pond. Since then, these strange events started.
So the villagers avoided going to the pond after the sun set. But a young boy in the village didn't believe these things. His name was Ark. He was only thirteen years old. He was a curious and brave boy. He loved reading mystery stories.
